US Sen. Chris Van Hollen told reporters in El Salvador Wednesday that he was unable to visit Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia in the maximum-security mega-prison where he is being held.

The government continues to reject the possibility of Abrego Garcia’s return as Senator Chris Van Hollen visits El Salvador to check on his status.

The U.S. State Department announced in an April 12 court filing that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is ‘alive and secure’ in an El Salvador prison — or ‘Terrorism Confinement Center’ — after the U.S. resident was mistakenly deported from Maryland in March.
