The Trump administration is threatening to withhold or redirect federal funding to New York’s mass transit system if it doesn’t receive documentation of the steps taken to address crime and create a safe environment for riders and workers.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on Tuesday threatened to withhold federal transit funds from New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority over crime and safety on the New York City subway system and other issues.

Sean Duffy, the U.S. transportation secretary, demanded a long list of details about crime in the subway and on buses in New York.
